Home Plate (Easton U Pirates #2) [Mason & Dominic] by Christina Lee

This book! I have NO WORDS to describe how much I enjoyed it. Honestly can't remember the last time I wasn't just "sniffling" a bit, but down right crying, not being able to continue until my vision is cleared. Mason KILLED me and Dominic being all sweet and caring towards him only made it worse (for my tears). I finally understand why we need the new waterproof e-readers.

While this novel can be read as a standalone I think you'll get both characters a bit better if you start with "Bat Boy". Maybe I think this way because I could see a start of a change in Mason and couldn't wait to get my hands on this one! Dominic and Mason have been "circling" each other for a while now and not even as friends. They need to be able to work together on the team but grumpy Mason is making it VERY difficult.

If you've read the first book you might be wondering who are these guys.. Well, I feel entitled to use their first names now that I've finished the book (and miss these guys already!) Mason Maclain is no other than Donovan and Hollister's roommate. While he sometimes acts like a douche he is just pessimistic and reserved and he has good reasons. He likes to play confident but it's easy to see it's all a façade.

Dominic Girard couldn't be more different. Free and open. His new feelings for Mason might be confusing but everything else in his life is all set. He has a loving relationship with his family and he can't wait to finish college (this being their last year) and take charge of the family business (a Bowling Alley).

Clearly they don't seem like the best bet, but Kellan (our MC from the first novel) decides these two needs some time bonding. I don't think he realized just how much these two needed each other. For both their new found attraction was a surprise and while they were feeling uncertain about themselves, it was far easier for Dominic who has a lot of support from his family and friends than Mason who literally has ONE (rather questionable) person in his life. Mason's story was HEART BREAKING. I wanted to hug him SO MUCH so I couldn't be happier he has Dominic to hold him and care for him.

It wasn't an easy ride for them, not the attraction but actually not even the new found friendship. Mason was second guessing himself with every step and Dominic needed to be so very patient not to make Mason bolt never to return again. It was so sad to read. I had all the sympathy for both guys but I'll admit more so for Mason with the smallest things that made his heart warm even for just a little only to be crushed by all the things he doesn't have and doesn't believe he'll get to keep (especially Dominic) once this year is over - no more baseball, no more team and literally no one and no place to call his own. In the end he needed to believe HE can hold on and not let go and it might be enough with his new found love. The ending... yeah it was EVERYTHING.

~sigh~ I truly can't recommend this book enough. I would rather not say more not to spoiler. I say - Grab it NOW but be advised to have Kleenex near by.

Note - Christina has given us the sweetest gift of these two for Valentines.

ABOUT THIS SERIES

Easton U Pirates is a New Adult series by Christina Lee.  The two books are EXTREMELY sweet and endearing. While I enjoyed the first and couldn't wait for more, the second one left me in tears more than I'd like to admit. One of my absolute FAVORITE New Adult novels. These COULD be read as a standalone but I think you'll enjoy both more if you start with Brady and Kellan's book.

It seems Christina didn't intend on making this a series (I'm REALLY glad she gave us Girard and Maclain!) so for now, there are not more books expected of the Easton U Pirates.
