The Tank (The Train #3) by Cari Z.

While this isn't my usual read Cari is! This is the third installment in what I refer to as "The Train" series, as it was the first story of Anton and Camille. Where last we left off it's clear both men wish for more than they have but it doesn't seem like a future together is something they can have at the moment. Camille's post as "a Lumiere" the Emperor's investigator takes him whenever there is trouble and Anton is all invested in his academic studies. Please be advised, if you haven't read the first two installment you MUST start at the beginning but no worries, all three are free reads though Cari's blog.

Now that Anton Seiber has finished his Master training in Thaumaturgy (magic) in the Universitate Zurich he isn't sure what to do with his life. His previous "adventure" with Camille has brought him no more trouble but the association with the man who has tried to kill him has left him with no employment offers. On the eve of his graduation he wishes for a friendly face. He has contacted both his mother and his closest friend from childhood Caroline but both haven't replied to his letters. He would have LOVED for Camille to come but he doesn't even know how to contact him. Camille seems to appear out of the blue and stay for the shortest time. Yet before the evening ends two of the three appear with a promise of adventure, one he isn't really sure about..

The Tower (The Train, #2) by Cari Z.

This is the sequel to "The Train" which I've read almost a year ago. It's not my usual read for sure, but as usual Cari manages to hold me to the edge of my seat with the most unexpected (for me) stories. This one was no different!

We've met Anton Seiber in the previous installment, back then he was on his was to Zurich to become a student of Thaumaturgy there. Thaumaturgy  basically means magic. Most people have some magical abilities in this post WWI world Cari created but only some can actually manipulate it and use it to any advantage.

On his was to Zurich - on the train - he met Camille Lumiere an investigator to the Emperor and there he found himself helping him uncover a murderer. Now, 3 months after they depart, Camille is back and though Anton's immediate reaction is pure joy, it changes when he realizes Camille is here to let him know his life is in danger.

Upon Camille and Anton's departure from the train, Anton takes with him a manuscript of a VERY powerful spell. He is still working on uncovering the way it works and both he and Camille realize the person who is murdering Englishmen who arrived to Zurich recently must be looking for Anton. It's only a matter of time before he finds him, better to look for the murderer together.

Calling this short novella cute is kinda strange considering the mystery and murder happening on this train in only a 3 days ride, yet when I closed my kindle with a smile at the very end, that's what I thought. I LOVED it, really enjoyed it though I have to say I DID struggle with the language at first (English isn't my mother tongue and I don't have a lot of experience with Steampunk).

Anton Seiber is a student of thaumaturgy (basically magic), on his way to the University of Zurich to continue his studies. It's IMPERATIVE that he arrives on time for his internship but it doesn't seem likely since his destined train was just switched to a royal ride of one of the Emperor's cousins on his way to get married. Not sure what to do he knows he HAS to be on this train no matter what so with a strange kind of occurrence he finds himself impersonating one of the guests.

Soulbound (Darkest London #6) [Eliza May & Aodh MacNeil/Adam] by Kristen Callihan

We met both Adam and Eliza May in the previous installment in the series. It's the beginning of their (love) story - as she lays dying after being attached, Daisy and Mary Chase find her and offer her an immortal life as a GIM. They call upon Adam who sees her and realizes she is the one who was promised to him so long ago. Taking his vow she is now eternally his, well, up until Sin and Will Thorne break her free. 

What exactly happened the time they spend together we know very little of, and frankly it doesn't even make any sense. He is happy she is by his side, but he is also a bit wary, he doesn't want to confide with her, yet he wants her to speak to him. She just sees a brooding annoying man who keeps her chained to his side so she gives him the "silence treatment" which annoys the heck out of him and in the end, when she finds her way out she happy to finally be free. 

Evernight (Darkest London #5) [Holly Everlight & William Thorne] by Kristen Callihan

I'm quite reluctant to write this review.. while this one started and continued on being a total and absolute JOY to read, near the ending I just felt lost, annoyed, tricked and mostly pissed off at the tricks of the Fae. The ending even made me reluctant to read the next one.. I guess it's better then that it will be published in about two months so I'll have my time to cool down and try and forgive Kristen for ruining this one for me. 

Shadowdance (Darkest London #4) [Mary Chase & Jack Talent] by Kristen Callihan

Another amazing installment in the Darkest London series! Absolutely LOVED this one, adored Mary Chase was totally in love with Jack Talent. Both of them are much more than they seem, well, mostly Jack - there is SO MUCH we don't know about him, maybe guessed, maybe guessed wrong :P (yeah, I'm talking about myself here..). My only complaint about this one is it took a bit too long for us to really get to the part were the truths of Jack's past and why he acts the way he does with Mary. 

Entwined (Darkest London #3.5) [Luella Jane & Eamon Evernight] by Kristen Callihan

What a sweet sweet innocent story! I was totally wrong about the MC, I thought it would be of the "grand revolation" in the previous book but actually it's exactly who it proclaims to be - Eamon Everlight - whom we heard of in the previous installment as a special crafter and soon after we met his grand daughter - Holly - a weapon engineer for SOS (also the MC in the fifth installment).

Winterblaze (Darkest London #3) [Poppy Ellis Lane & Winston Lane] by Kristen Callihan

Another GREAT installment in the Darkest London series. I have no problem admitting that the first thing that drew me to this book, and surly to this series was the cover of this one! Yet after actually reading it (and the two and a half previous installment) I'm utterly HOOKED. Though Historical Romance isn't exactly my "style" I can't wait to continue exploring London and it's unnatural and not so unnatural inhabitants. 

Moonglow (Darkest London, #2) [Daisy Ellis Craigmore & Ian Ranulf] by Kristen Callihan

OMG. This book was IMPOSSIBLE to put down. I started one day Saturday evening, quite late, so I just managed 20%, then on Sunday I was reading non-stop until on 12:30 am I resigned myself to go to sleep but I just couldn't fall asleep! So I told myself, yeah, a little bit more and that's it. So I read for about an hour then went back to sleep but AGAIN, I just couldn't! So I just finished off the book and THEN fell asleep peacefully :)

Ember (Darkest London 0.5) [Miranda Ellis & Benjamin Archer] by Kristen Callihan

Saturday morning, waking up lazily and reading before I get out of bed. Usually it's so lazy I fall back to sleep after a while then wake up fully and leave the comfort of my bed. Today I just kept turning and turning the pages (more pressing the Kindle screen though..) even though I know how this one will end since it's the prequel to Firelight I just finished. It CAN'T have a really happy ending as I know the state of both characters in the beginning of Firelight. They both want a happy ending, or rather a sort of adventure yet they are still each in his / her own mind and basically alone even while having people around them.

Firelight (Darkest London #1) [Miranda Ellis & Benjamin Archer] by Kristen Callihan

Such a BEAUTIFUL story! I loved every second of it! and I SHOULD say that I'm not usually into Historical Romance. But after reading Tami's review I KNEW I have to give this one a go, and as I saw that she was keeping on reading the next ones and enjoying it so much I decided to put in on my immediate list. "Lucky me" I had so many disappointments and DNF this month I had a little "free time" book wise. 

First off, this is no "regular" Historical Romance it's a Paranormal Historical Romance which is GREAT. I loved that idea. There are so many futuristic Paranormals or current Paranormals but I haven't seen any books that are of the Historical kind. I might just don't know about them for lack of real interest in this genre... (which I should probable remedy) But anyhow that's not the only thing I absolutely loved about this book - It was also a new tale of "Beauty and the Beast". I'm not sure if the other ones in the series have the same concept of "fairy tale" reinvented but if so - it's simply awesome! (I should say that the next one TOTALLY feels like a reinvented fairy tale, you'll get the hints in this one)
