True Colors (True Love #2) [Marco & Oskar] by Anyta Sunday

SUCH a beautiful heart felt story. My heart BURNED for Marco. As we only got his POV it took me time to truly warm up to Oskar. I could see he is sorry for what he said/done, but being inside Marco's sad and despair filled head I just wanted him to be happy, to be able to accept himself the way he is. Scars and all.

Oskar and Marco have been friends for YEARS. Living next door they hang out all the time, sneaking in each other's bedroom, playing, skating. When a car accident takes Marco's mom away, their friendship doesn't change, it even grows stronger in a way, but Marco does change. The scars on his skin and in his heart closes him out to the world.

One thing their friendship didn't survive - a cruel remark from Oskar breaks Marco's heart as well as their friendship. After that they share nothing but distant glances. Marco keeps his warm relationship with Oskar's younger sister (especially when Oskar moves away to college) but he wants nothing to do with the guy.

Starting college himself, finding new friends (including Ben the MC from "True Luck" the first installment in the series) but the shame and insecurity plagues him. His obsession (since his mother's passing) with color - assigning it to people and situations - makes him feel like a salmon colored which for him translates to being cowardly, fearful and insecure. Gone were the days of bright yellow when and where his happiness resided.

When Oskar returns from college and Marco's father insists on him playing along side him on their yearly play Marco doesn't feel he can do it. But it's not like he can run - his usual salmon-y reaction. Especially since he took his mother's last play and fixed it a bit, wanting it to capture the way things were when she was alive and they were (still) best friends. But neither of them is a good actor so trying to play besides one another is more than difficult. Oskar seems like he's trying, like he wants to rekindle their friendship but Marco can't trust him.

Oskar's words and actions did did far worse than just destroy their friendship it broke something inside Oscar not allowing him to move on, from their friendship but also from his view of himself as damaged. He isn't able to open up, about his fears and insecurities as well as his sexuality. All he has is his father and grandfather, how can he deal with anything if they aren't by his side? He would rather not know than be broken up even more than he already is if they can't accept him being gay.

Oskar does a good work trying to get closer to Marco though Marco doesn't appreciate most of it (at least not in the beginning). He misses Oskar and what they had SO MUCH, also sharing his sister between them is difficult considering she knows nothing about what happened between them. He is too afraid to even consider trusting Oskar but as time goes by and truths are being revealed, little by little he realizes Oskar was and will always be his only one. His true love. Oskar have realized it long before but he didn't know how to fix what he stupidly broken, but he is here now and he wants Marco BACK as his best friend, and maybe even more.

I could say so much more about this beautiful story. It was impossible to put down with how much I NEEDED everything to work out. I couldn't stand how sad and broken Marco was I just wanted him to be happy, with Oskar. Even though he was mean to Marco at a certain point I realized it truly doesn't matter because he is the only one who can fix it. Marco needs him to fix it, to prove to him he loves him and cares about him - all of him.

I couldn't have asked for more, truly. I loved this one to pieces and I can't wait for the next one in the series!
