Reckless Behavior (Bad Behavior #3) by Cari Z. & L.A. Witt

Another EXCELLENT installment, I can't believe Andreas and Darren's journey is coming to an end. But I guess they are entitled to their HEA sooner rather than later even if I'm VERY reluctant to let them go. This was quite an emotional ride, unlike the previous two books were things WERE at times personal, in this one it's ALL about Andreas being personally punished for his past actions. I knew and believed in our HEA ending, but the ride was bumpy and painful to everyone, yet through it, we could see these two not only protect and be there for their families, but also becoming a family together.

Andreas' older kids are FINALLY in town and they plan on meeting together with Lisa (Andreas' ex girlfriend) and Emily (their mutual 4 years old daughter). While Erin (Andreas' oldest) has been in town for a while now, and she is updated on everything, Ben and Casey (his younger sons) don't know about him having HIV (for the past 4+ years), being bi and seriously dating Darren. It's time to come clean and it's time to put family in a more prominent place in his life. He still plans on running around criminals but he misses his family and wants to have a bigger part in their lives.

Their dinner together was awkward. While Ben was more accepting, it was a bigger shock for Casey who wasn't sure how to accept all these secrets and truths he didn't know about his father. When dinner is over and they are about to part ways Emily and Erin are abducted together with Casey (while Ben got away with Darren's help). Andreas is left barely standing on the sidewalk not having a clue what just happened and how he is going to find his kids. Who would harm them? As a police officer he has obtained many enemies, and still, going after his family? Now all of a sudden? It makes no sense and so it leaves him unable to process or even DO anything helpful to find them.

The next 48 hours were a ride. It was emotional, it was action pact, even with all the dead ends. I can't believe it was JUST this long, it felt much more with everything going on. Even if most of the time Andreas and Darren were shooting to all directions not a having a clue who is behind all this and where are the kids. They have a few "lucky breaks" but in the end it almost crumbles to the ground a few times leaving me breathless. our villain in this book was a bit unhinged to say the least so they had to  be careful with how they were dealing with him. They had Paula's help, that was a given. I wish Cari and Witt write a book about HER. she needs her OWN HEA. Another surprising help was Mark Thibedeau (the officer from IA who was on Andreas' case in the first installment and then became Erin's boss in the second). I would have loved getting more of him. Hell, maybe HE needs a book too! I was ROFL with his version of hard partying (it doesn't exactly involves watching SPORTS I can tell you THAT! hehe) [YASSS!!! Mark got his book! "Protective Behavior").

With all the tension around finding Andreas' kids, Darren was dealing with Asher (his older brother) and his deteriorating state of Alzheimer. It was SO hard for him, yet being there for Andreas felt much more helpful than just feeling sorry for himself, Asher and their parents. There was nothing to be done, but it was still heart breaking and quite distracting for Darren. It also left him questioning time and time again what would happen if/when he gets it. He gets to the point he promises Andreas he is GOING to get tested because he needs to know for himself but I think mostly for Andreas and his parents. Sitting in the office, waiting for the answers, I was SO tense. Their conversation outside and everything before it when they were both thinking how their future is going to be if/when Darren gets sick was HEARTBREAKING.

I mentioned in the beginning how Darren and Andreas became a family in this one. It truly felt this way especially with all the family interactions. Even if it was mostly focused on Andreas'. Darren was reluctant at first, considering he is closer in age to Andreas' kids than Andreas himself.. He was even a  bit intimidated by Andreas' ex but she was actually quite sweet. I think she has already moved on and wasn't resenting Andreas for the reasons they broke up. They raised 3 wonderful kids together, and there is no reason to be disrespectful to one another now. Especially in a time of crisis when the kids' lives are on the line.

This book ends with a sweet and endearing happy note. I think it could have been the end of their journey actually, but we get a bonus novella which - as usual - I'm VERY excited about. These two are BEAUTIFUL together. I LOVE their dynamics, how they truly care for one another and it shows in EVERY gesture they make. They SEE each other, they LOVE each other and it's ALWAYS there.

OUTSTANDING book AND series. A MUST READ.

ABOUT THIS SERIES

Bad Behavior is a Romantic MM Suspense series by Cari Z. and L.A. Witt. It follows the newly partnered Andreas Ruffner an experienced if non-orthodox detective and rookie Darren Corliss who has just made it detective. An unlikely couple, yet unlike Andreas' previous partners it somehow WORKS, better than either of them expected.

This series was simply SUPERB. Though both are confident men who know who they are and what they want they were ego free. Once they realized they COULD trust each other and little by little became friends and lovers they were genuine towards one another, not hiding or playing games. It felt so RIGHT how they interacted. Like two guys who REALLY care for one another and isn't ashamed of it, who is willing to BE THERE for one another in the most basic ways and not think too much of what others (or the other..) would think of it. Every thing they did, every gesture was CLEAR and simply PERFECT.

I LOVED how their romance progressed. There's always A LOT going on around them, but they never forget each other. They look out for one another in every sense possible and they are MEN enough to apologize when it's needed.

I can't praise this series enough. It's well written. Emotional but not overly so. Action packed, but it's not JUST about the action, there is much going on in both Andreas and Darren's families and everything just brings them closer together.

** The 5th installment "Protective Behavior" has a different couple - Detective Mark Thibedeau from Internal Affairs and Dr. Ryan Campbell. It was also an amazing novel, it contained everything I loved about the relationship buildup of Andreas and Darren though naturally it's very different in every other aspect.

OUTSTANDING!
