Hour of Darkness (Hunter Legacy #2) [Cain & Marina] by Lara Adrian

I gotta say I was quite disappointed with this one. First, I didn't like the hero, almost right from the start, and second the story line and the whole interaction felt predicted, you know this pattern and you've read it in too many PNR books. I don't read as many PNR as I used to these days, mostly stick to Contemporary so many that's part of my problem. Big-ass-bad-Vampire, moody, arrogant, killing-machine, alpha, aggressive, over-protective, knows what's best for the heroine. You've met "him" SO MANY TIMES, especially with being hurt in the past so doesn't want to get near the female to protect his heart. I wish this was somehow different but it was SO Predictable I was just bored when I wasn't annoyed with his over bearing behavior.

Marina Moretskova is the niece of a mob boss, or rather the one who enables one of the worst mob bosses in Russia (and outside of it). Finally accepting her request to leave this world he gives her an assignment to make them both free. Deliver money and a disc full of knowledge of the one he will need protecting from (once he's out) and so she flies to the USA to make the deal. Things don't turn out as she expected when she is almost killed TWICE and been betrayed in the process. Her savior is a Breed Male she have never even met before - Cain Hunter. She isn't a very trusting person and Cain is Breed and if there is one thing other than trust no one her uncle have always drilled into her is never trust these blood sucking monsters.. Yet he is the only one left standing so she goes with him... (and becomes his prisoner...)

We've met Cain Hunter in the previous installment. He was the "bad guy" who made the right decision in the very end. Leaving Las Vegas to Miami was his way of turning a different page. When he sees a premonition (that's his breed ability) of a woman's death, one he was starting at swimming at the pool directly bellow him as he was standing in his hotel room's balcony he literally jumps to her rescue. He finds a very vibrant, strong willed woman who can handle herself VERY well, yet now she does need help and not even sure why he helps her out but once he sees she is a bridesmate the deal is done. As I've already described in the first paragraph the kind of Male he is, he basically made her his prisoner in his house, or rather the house he used to share with other Hunters who were rescued from the Hunter program 20 years ago. Being there brings up too many memories, ones he misses and others he wants to bury but his main problem is making sure Marina is safe and also trying to avoid her - her beautiful seductive body and strong willed personality he can't help but crave.

I LOVED Marina, she was GREAT. What a woman, she was the perfect heroine. So full of life, and energy, she knew what she wanted and she was working her damn best to make it happen even if she had the annoying vampire imprisoning her and demanding total and absolute honestly which she had NO reason to give. They knew each other for a day, why would she trust him and especially when he was behaving like a jailer preventing her from leaving or making any act on her own. What's is it to him? He also had a VERY bad opinion of her uncle and couldn't hold his opinion to himself. He was all about CONTROLLING Marina. It was pretty disgusting. I didn't see why she was attracted to him AT ALL.

Frankly, I expected to much more from Lara.
