This novella starts right after the ending of the previous one - The Solstice Gift (the 4th installment in Oberon's Court). Dis is on his way to the Summer Fae's lands to bring Queen Titania the gift from her husband King Oberon. With his protective wolf Ciurlen by his side and a heavy heart for leaving his lover Marten behind he sets on his journey.
The Summer Fae and their land couldn't be more different than the Winter land he has grown up in. It's warm and sunny. Filled with laughter and celebrations. Most of the Fae are friendly and charming and though they try to convince him he should stay he always denies them. He needs to come home to Marten even if his life there is far from perfect. Titania is nothing like what Dis expected she is honorable and welcoming. So very different than anything he has come to associate with the Fae world. Yet not everything is perfect..
Dis finds it hard to trust the Fae even the ones who are nice to him. He isn't sure what he can or cannot tell them as not all want the realms to be united. The first step to that reunion is Dis giving Titania her gift - a powerful energy surging inside of him. They try to convince him to use the power himself but he is adamant on doing the right thing, the thing he was tasked to do.
Things gets out of hand when his ring is missing - the one Marten has given him. He misses Marten as it is, the ring means EVERYTHING to him because it's his only way of communicating with the man he loves. It's obvious from their "virtual" encounters how much both men love each other and want to find a way for a future together but now even the present is taken from them.
Dis' heart is broken when he realizes the game he was unknowingly been a part of and now he has a very difficult decision to make - stay true to his promise and his honor or save the man he loves. But things aren't as they seem. There is far more in store for Dis than he ever imagined.
I LOVED this story and how different it was from the previous one. The ending was simply beautiful with more than a promise for a very interesting and bright future for both Dis and Marten. I wish Oberon and Titania find their own HEA as I feel like they deserve it as well.
