Happy for You (Love and Family #3) [Mort & Felix] by Anyta Sunday

It's my fault I'm dead tired or maybe it's Anyta's? I just COULD NOT and WOULD NOT put this book down. I did in the end, well, not in the VERY end, I just MADE myself go to sleep then woke up early to finish it. Hence - tired, but mostly stupidly HAPPY FOR myself and naturally Felix and Mort. ~sigh~ I wasn't ready for this one. When it started I didn't know where it was going -  what we got was a heart ache, heart felt story. The slow building of the romance but first the re-building of a friendship that was meant to be so much more.

We've already met Mort Campbell in the previous installments but while he seemed like a great guy - and he is! Finally getting his story as well as him getting his HEA was a treat. Mort didn't have a "real" family. Only a father who ignored him, so now that his father is gone he is truly on his own especially since his "adopted" family is out of the picture as well. It was his fault for leaving but he seemingly had a good reason. Or so it seemed at the time..

A year has gone by and Mort truly misses the Rochester family. His ex-best-friend Michael (he used to be able to fondly call Roch), Tiffany the teenager and the little twins April and May, their mother Dolores who used to be like a mother to him, but mostly he misses Felix though he probably shouldn't think about how he makes him feel.. He shouldn't.. But he's back now and he's going to make amends with everyone in this family. They meant and still mean so much to him. No matter what happened he cannot leave them again. He's here to stay.

Felix Rochester has loved Mort for most of his life. Seeing Mort's heart break when his brother didn't return his love made it even worse. Seeing him again is everything he wanted, especially after the difficult year the whole family went through and in a way still dealing with, but it's also impossible to be happy, not when he is still not over him and probably never would. He wants to forgive Mort because he understands why he left even if he wishes he wouldn't have. It also makes him question his place in this family once he learns the whole truth.

Getting both of Mort and Felix's thoughts in short alternating chapters helped making this book a compelling read but much more than that - it was their tender thoughts, their love and longing, the way each impacted the other and the family they both wanted to treasure as well as make whole again.

There's A LOT to this story as it's not just about the two of them, it's about each of them and the relationships they have with every family member. Looking at the name of this series it's quite obvious - Love and Family. it goes together especially in this book with the family Mort used to have with the Rochesters and the one he hopes to rekindle and change a bit so he can have much more with Felix. For Felix it's finding acceptance and his special place in this family and by Mort's side.

They both needed time not only to build a solid foundation as well as learn to (re-)trust each other, it was also about BELIEVING and ACCEPTING that in the end, they put each other first and I think that's something each and every one of us CRAVE. To feel valued, loved, but also that we are special and unique and we are treated this way.

One last remark - If you've read DJ Dangerfield there's a mention of him, a band we've heard of before as well as Pax Polo the MC from "Shrewd Angel" I've recently finished.

OUTSTANDING READ. Couldn't recommend it enough!

I kindly received this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

ABOUT THIS SERIES

Love & Family is a Contemporary Romance series by Anyta Sunday. Such tender and loving stories. I enjoyed all three and highly recommend them. Though this is a series, the characters aren't that connected through the books. They can totally be read as stand alone novels but PLEASE don't miss out on any of them.
