Getting back with the kings! I was so excited about this book, and frankly after finishing and getting the little snippet of the next one, I'm even MORE excited (AND it's releasing next month). This series is a mix of romance, suspense and A LOT of family/brotherhood shenanigans. What more can anyone ask? We've already met both Mason and Lucky so it was all about seeing how these two can stop being stupid suborn bastards and start ACTING on what they want.
Eduardo "Lucky" Alejandro Morales is one of the "Kings", he is Ace's cousin and have been in his shadow ever since he came to the state in his teens. Living in Ace's shadow was never truly a problem though he always wished he would be taken more seriously and people SEE HIM for who he is, not just the hot headed one. Though he IS also that hehe. It was actually a surprise to Mason as well when he saw Lucky on a daily basis and saw how much more he actually is, and with sexual tension burning everything around them it easily became so much more.
Mason Cooper was a police officer for years before he got a promotion two months ago and FINALLY became a detective yet waking up in the morning he feels like something isn't truly RIGHT. The new tension (not just sexual but also aggressive of anger) with Lucky isn't helping either and on top of it all he gets suspended and it's all his stupid fault! He can't skip work till things gets resolved so he goes to King and asks for a temporary job in "Four Kings Security". Though Mason was a bit skeptical, King actually accepts though the makes it clear he and Lucky needs to resolve their issues...
Spending time together, the sexual tension between Lucky and Mason is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Yet acting upon it doesn't "scratch the itch" it only makes them want each other more. Though Mason isn't the flirt Lucky is, who changes partners almost every night, he doesn't believe in "HEA", everything in his life crumbles to the ground and also he has a hard time opening up to partners (same way he destroyed his relationship with Ace..). Lucky isn't a serious guy, not with his sexual encounters. He enjoys both men and women but commitment, or rather getting involved and possibly hurt isn't something he wants to risk yet these two together, seeing each other at their best but also in vulnerable situations makes them want something they never truly wished for in the past. It's all a matter of admitting it to themselves and then grabbing the other as hard as they can.
Though Mason is the first one to admit he wants more he still has his secrets. He opened up to Lucky more than he ever has in the past for sure! But what he neglects to say in the right moment almost cost Mason his life. but they were already in a different place so it was great seeing Lucky stepping up and being there for Mason like he wanted and needed and also helping him rebuild his life and atone for the deeds of his past. I liked seeing the change in Mason throughout the book. Working for the Kings not only with Lucky, changed him. He realized where he wants to be and what he wants to do and how he wants to live his life. He just needed the right "nudge" in that direction (interesting WHO gave the nudges actually.. you'll see in the end. It was AWESOME!).
The closure was wonderful, not only Lucky and Mason's but also for someone else as well. The Epilogue brought us as usual a glimpse into the next book - Ward Kingston and WHO the guy he is going to fall for is going to be. WOW I'm excited.
I kindly received this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
