Changing Worlds (Worlds, #1-#2) (Bonded, #3) [Jason & Ferran] by Cari Z.

This was truly a fascinating read. I don't usually read Sci-Fi novels, romance or other. I'm not into the genre on TV as well but this is Cari.. So I knew I'm going to give this one a fair chance. It wasn't an easy read for me, A LOT of details, some confusing or just so very DIFFERENT. Cari built a whole WORLD solely for this novel which is AMAZING. The planet of Perel and especially the Perel people or rather - species - were highly complex yet interesting.

I think back when this was first published it had two parts, the first one being Jason and Ferran getting together, forming a friendship and little by little turning into lovers not sure what will happen the day Ferran would leave, and he would have to leave.. This was about 17% of the book. The second half, the more substantial, is Ferran and Jason managing a life together in Perel which is difficult on so many levels..

This whole book is told from Jason Kim's POV which made sense I guess because he was the human trying to get this new world around him. He is the first and only Human to be allowed to live in Perel besides the ambassador who lives at the edge of the big (and only) city. She is there and yet she isn't considered a part of their world. Perel is managed by females of power - the Matriarchs. This species suffered a great lose in number and fertility in the past so now they live in families in which one woman marries many men. The more valued ones are the fertile ones, but the ones who are not become part of the household and are in charge of different aspects of it. They are now quite a peaceful species, trying to handle their fertility problems as best as they can so they can grow and rebuild. They are a closed off society, so asking or accepting help from other planets is NOT going to happen, but as Ferran Grenn, the son of one of the most powerful matriarchs, falls in love with a human while on his year away from the planet, she does her best to help her son find his HEA while also trying to insert a different concept into their lives, one that might bring progress from the outside.

There is A LOT going on in this book, first the world building, the world really, the different people Jason meets and interacts with, the special abilities of the Perel species. There's SO MUCH. It was interesting yet at times a bit heavy on the details which got me, who isn't used to these kind of things, a bit exhausted. Not in a bad way, I wasn't bored, I was more, well, swamped hehe

I don't think I can summarize this book properly. But I guess what I wrote SHOULD be enough. Jason and Ferran were simply CUTE together, but they had many things to deal with before they could truly be able to be free with one another. Their time together at Perel wasn't easy for neither of them, even physically for Jason as he had to deal with a climate his body wasn't used to and needed to take medication in order to survive, that's without the language and cultural differences. But it was ALL worth it. I kinda wish we'd get more of these two :)

Note - There IS a bit more of these two in the universe of "Bonded". All the other "books" in this world are free reads through Cari's blog.

ABOUT THIS SERIES

Bonded Universe is mostly a free online by Cari Z. It's hard for me to categorize this series. Three out of seven are for sure Sci-Fi MM Romance but the next ones are more of Suspense / Adventure / Journey.

Though I'm NOT a Sci-Fi reader I AM a Cari Z. Reader ;) Which is why I gave these a go. The first ones I read I needed time to get used to the world and the futuristic feel of it all but once I got into it, I realized I simply ADORE this series and truly can't wait for more! and there's GOT to be more as there is at least two things left unfinished (in Redstone).

The series starts following Garrett and Jonah from when they met on their way to the remote planet of Pandora. From there it was obvious they are not going to stay apart no matter the complications. These two are the MCs in the first two books in the series.

The 3rd book is totally independent and also the only PUBLISHED book in this "series". It's the story of Jason and Ferran (an alien) finding a life together in the alien planet Ferran grew up in.

From there the series goes into a bit of a different direction. The first three were absolutely romance novels, but the next 3 are more on suspense of a sort of journey/adventure to dealing with the corruption of  the current Federation regime. In these books A LOT of characters, side characters as well as main ones from the previous 3 books takes a more prominent stance. All of them together with the next generation (Jonah's son Cody as well as Jason and Ferran's adopted son) playing a role in making things RIGHT for ALL the occupants of the Federation.

[ I'm organizing the books by date of publication, what makes sense to me. There is no "real" Bonded Universe series, I'm making it so it's easier for other people to understand the timeline / order of the series. ]
