Touch the Sky (Free Fall #1) [Gabriel & Lucas] by Christina Lee & Nyrae Dawn

Beautiful. So so beautiful. Heart breaking and yet heart warming all together. Sweet and yet harsh. I couldn't have asked for more for Gabriel and Lucas than each other and yet it wasn't JUST about finding their way to one another's arms it was MUCH more.

I've missed Christina's NA novels. I LOVED all of her book in the "Between Breaths" series so getting this one was a total and absolute TREAT! Also getting to know Nyrae from this book was great. I don't know how this book written, if it was alternating Gabriel / Lucas's POVs for each author or they wrote it all together, anyhow it was superb! I didn't feel it was written by two different people it was so fluent. Only problem is now I have to check more books by Nyrae and there is not enough time! (not in a day, ant not in a freaking year!) for my endless TBR list.

Gabriel and Lucas met 5 years ago through a message board on the net, they soon became best friends or rather the only true honest and close friend they had. While they come from very different backgrounds they find a lot of common grounds, and not only because they are totally alone in the world (even if they do technically have a family). Gabriel comes from a rather wealthy family and yet it's totally dysfunctional, his mother is depressed and his father uses his fists to show his disappointment from his only son. Lucas on the other hand, doesn't always have food on the table but he does have his mother whom he loves dearly and who loves him back, she just loves her liqueur more.. Gabriel and Lucas promise each other to finally meet in person in West Hollywood when they finish school and accomplish their dreams together, yet something happens and the connection between the two is severed.

5 years later they meet by mistake and everything comes flooding out. Lucas is ANGRY with Gabriel for disappearing on him and yet seeing Gabriel brings a sort of broken hope with the guy who used to be his closest friend. Gabriel is totally broken, he is the one to severe the connection and yet it wasn't totally a decision he had any control over. He had his own issues to deal with. These five years have being difficult for both of them. Lucas losing his mom and Gabriel dealing or maybe NOT dealing with a difficult illness. Yet finding each other again meaning finding a sort of "center" they both missed. Though they have friends (they have a hard time accepting in their lives) they felt utterly alone up until now.

The attraction between the two is sizzling, it's this insane connection they used to have that FINALLY has a way to be expressed and the years being apart means NOTHING. Also getting glimpses into the letters they shared back then gives the story a genuine feel of the deep friendship and trust they shared.

Yet finding each other isn't enough to solve their personal problems. Lucas would LOVE to take care of Gabriel as he used to do for his mom, and Gabriel would do anything to show Lucas he is free to go after his deepest wishes, the ones he promised he will pursue. The thing I loved most about this book was even though they meant the WORLD to each other, they still had a certain road to go on their own. It was painful to read and be a part of, and yet it was EXACTLY as it should be. It's how I see life, it's the way I believe it should be which is why unlike a lot of more "cheesy" NA romance novels this one felt SO DAMN REAL! It was difficult, it broke my heart, I had SUCH a stomach ache throughout this book, I was almost at tears and it was WORTH every second of it to get the final page and see everything played out JUST RIGHT.

Can't recommend this enough.
Beautiful in the most heart breaking way (yeah I've said it already - bite me! :P)

I kindly received this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Nyrae Dawn

Nyrae Dawn can almost always be found with a book in her hand or an open document on her laptop. She couldn’t live without books—reading or writing them. Oh, and chocolate. She’s slightly addicted.

She gravitates toward character-driven stories. Whether reading or writing, she loves emotional journeys. It’s icing on the cake when she really feels something, but is able to laugh too. She’s a proud romantic, who has a soft spot for flawed characters, who make mistakes, but also have big hearts.

Whether she’s writing young adult, new adult, or adult you can always count on a healthy dose of romance from her books. She likes to tackle tough subjects, and believes everyone needs to see themselves in the stories they read.

Nyrae is living her very own happily ever after in California with her gorgeous husband (who still makes her swoon) and her two incredibly awesome kids.

Christina Lee

Once upon a time, I lived in New York City and was a wardrobe stylist. I spent my days shopping for photo shoots, getting into cabs, eating amazing food, and drinking coffee at my favorite hangouts.

Now I live in the Midwest with my husband and son—my two favorite guys. I've been a clinical social worker and a special education teacher. But it wasn't until I wrote a weekly column for the local newspaper that I realized I could turn the fairytales inside my head into the reality of writing fiction.

I write Adult, New Adult, and M/M Contemporary Romance. I'm addicted to lip gloss and salted caramel everything. I believes in true love and kissing, so writing romance novels has become a dream job.

ABOUT THIS SERIES

Free Fall is a New Adult MM Romance series by Christina Lee and Nyrae Dawn. There are currently three books in the series. The first one was one of the most touching and beautiful New Adult romance novel I"ve read in a LONG LONG time. These stories mostly talk about friendship and trust. They deal with quite unique issues in each one. Each can be read as a stand alone though there are reoccurring characters.
I loved Christina and Nyrae together.

Note - Though "Living Out Loud" is not a part of the series it contains a lot of the characters from it. Also, we've met Ben in "Paint the Stars" (Ezra's boyfriend from college). Xavier was mentioned in a novel by Nyrae Dawn ("Hundred Thousand Words").
