The Rat-Catcher’s Daughter (Lilywhite Boys #0.5) [Christiana & Stan] by K.J Charles

This was SUCH a sweet novella. I'm not sure what I was expecting but it wasn't what I've got hehe Christiana and Stan are an ENDEARING couple. So gentle and sweet. I could imagine them walking the streets holding hands having a quiet conversation like nothing around them really matters. They had each other and they were happy the way they are.

Yet that's not how we start.. Miss Christiana found herself in a REALLY bad situation being "owned" by Kammy Grizzard who took her debt and made it his own, or rather, made her HIS own expecting her to pay up through working for him - "entertaining" rich men and stealing from them. It's not something she could EVER imagine herself doing no matter the cost and now that Kammy's men are in her dressing room she feels it's all over.. She is more than surprised when two men appear on the doorstep telling Kammy they are paying her debt for her and after Kammy has left, tell her she is basically off the hook and have her life back and she can take it as a birthday present of whatever.. The only thing they suggest is saying her thanks (and nothing more!) to their friend Stan.

Christopher Morrow, or rather, Miss Christiana, is a singer and performer. She loves her job and hopes to become famous for her work and yet she is rather shy and reserved person when she is off stage and also after what she went through with Kammy she isn't willing to offer her body (and soul) in exchange for anything so she is more than surprised when Stan comes to her dressing room with flowers and literally asks for nothing in return for his help. He did what he could for a person he was enjoying seeing and hearing on stage and she does recognize him as a regular of her performances. In the end they settle on a pint together Christiana dresses "as Chris". Stan doesn't seem to mind at all.

Stanislav Kamarzyn is quiet and reserved person himself. He has admired Christiana from afar this whole time and when he heard about Kammy's punishment for her he simply COULDN'T allow that to happen. He isn't a guy with means, but he does work sometimes for the "Lilywhite Boys" - Jerry Crozier and Templeton Lane (the MCs in the next two installments) who ARE pretty shady in their business and whole demeanor but for him they are good friends. They have the money and means and they are more than willing to help him especially when they see his interest in Christiana.

There's a bit more to the story with Kammy making a re-appearance but for me, this book was mostly about the gentle, tender and heartfelt romance between Stan and Christiana. They find their way for their own kind of romance and since it works beautifully for them that's the most important thing. I would have wished getting more from these two but that being said, I'm happy with what we've got. I think these two are going to have a wonderful life together.

 ABOUT THIS SERIES

Lilywhite Boys is a Historical Romance series by K.J. Charles. The Lilywhite boys are a professional jewel thieves. They are called Lilywhite especially for their ability to stay clear of the police's way. Though most jobs are done by Jerry Crozier and Templeton Lane they do get a bit of help from their friend Stanislav Kamarzyn. The series tells us their love stories, though the stories themselves aren't connected there are a lot of details thrown in that makes it best read in order and even more so starting from the "original" series "Sins of the Cities" which takes place 20 years before this one.

The is a bit of overlap of characters between the series mostly in the background but one takes quite the center point in both full length novels - Susan Lazarus. If her last name sounds familiar and her first doesn't it's because we've met her as Sukey, Justin's little helper in "An Unnatural Vice". She matured into one HELL of a woman and I really enjoyed her novel (notice, unlike the previous ones it's a heterosexual relationship).

The first gives as the feel of the times and the characters though it's a very sweet and endearing short novella with a bit of suspense, there are a few important details thrown in though that makes the next two makes more sense. The two full length novels gives us a real arc of action and a big mystery to be revealed with a beautiful complicated relationship buildup in each one.

WONDERFUL HIGHLY RECOMMENDED SERIES but please start with "Sins of the Cities" you WON'T regret it!
