The Heir Apparent by Tere Michaels

This was SUCH a sweet read! After a few busy days I sat yesterday and devoured this novella. It's quite long for a novella, which is probably why it was easier to see the change in the MC and how the things they had to deal with effected them and changed their relationship.

This novella is told from both MC - Archie and Henry. Henry and Archie know each other from the age of 5 when Archie's mother came to work for Henry's family. They became fast friends but only in their 20s their relationship changed into a sexual one. They always cared about one another, they were best friends! But they didn't have a romantic relationship, both not wanting to "go there" and speak about it, especially now when Archie is Henry's driver.. It's too much of a cliche anyhow.. Henry is the sole heir of a very successful company, his father have been grooming him to inherit it, yet when the day finally comes unexpectedly he is confused with what he finds out and doesn't know how to interpret his father's decisions.

I don't want to write a lot about the plot itself. There is a big tragedy leading Archie and Henry to actually look at their relationship and how much they mean to one another but there is also a mystery and a suspense feel to the novella (though I guess it's quite easy to guess what's going on, well, it was for me anyhow) which also effects the buildup of the relationship. I loved how patient and understanding Archie was which enabled him to handle Henry but also, in the end, figure the important details of the mystery (not saying more!)

What was beautiful about this novella was the progression of Henry and Archie's love for one another or the expression of it since they both loved each other for years. I also really enjoyed seeing how easy it was in the end for both of them to take the next step since they were already "there", they just didn't talk about it, worrying that it would only make it worse especially as Archie is soon finishing his degree and intend on looking for another job.

Highly recommended! sweet and suspenseful novella :) and if you haven't checked "Faith, Love & Devotion" by Tere you definitely should! (Recently reviewed the last installments in the series).
