More than Life by Garrett Leigh

You'd think a 60 page novella would be unable to give you a full story that would tear your soul apart. You'd be wrong! Garrett can surely do exactly that. This one turned me inside out every single page. There is nothing truly sweet about this love story, not when all around them is death and suffering, yet the friendship, the love, that built between Isa and Mik was beautiful beyond words.

Mik and Isa meets when Isa (the American CIA Operative) is helping the resistance in Kosovo which is led by Mik's father. There is an instant connection between the two of them, but it takes many encounters for them to feel save enough to act on their growing feelings. Once they do, Mik is almost too scared to hope for a real future for the two of them.

But when Mik is forced to run away from his home and leave Isa behind, he knows there is nothing else for him in this world. He stumbles through life, does the least he can to survive (mostly succeeding only because of his sister and his childhood friend's help) and even with a living reminder of Isa by his side he has nothing to look forward to until one day a tall stranger walks through the woods to his cabin..

I was wrecked from the inside the whole time I was reading this. Yet every page with the terror and horrors around them there was some sort of hope that it will work out in the end. I believed in Garrett, believed she will bring them back together in the end, that what they shared in those terrible days would only be the beginning.

I have no more to say that shout how much I recommend this one. Short as it is, it's special, sensitive, beautiful and romantic in the most doomed way.
